About Solon Manufacturing

Founded in 1936, Solon Manufacturing was originally a small regional manufacturer of ice cream spoons and cocktail forks. The company, over the years, expanded and diversified its business to a position of international prominence in dairy/food products, disposable medical devices, paint accessories, craft products, and industrial applications.

In 2000 Solon was purchased by the Mossberg Corporation, a privately held company. Mossberg enabled the company to consolidate manufacturing to a state of the art plant in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and sheltered manufacturing in Dalian, China. Our plant is ISO 13485: 2003 certified, and FDA registered.

2009 brought a focused direction to Solon; we completed an acquisition of PurFybr medical, giving us access to specialized diagnostic swabs and expertise in nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swabs used in the collection of viruses like influenza, strep, or H1N1A. To further concentrate our efforts we divested our food, dairy, paint & craft businesses to focus only on our growing medical business.

Today, Solon continues to diversify its product offerings of single use disposable products for the acute and alternate care markets. Our product portfolio ranges from tongue depressors and cotton tipped applicators, to ear curettes, women’s health devices, and sophisticated virus retrieval devices, but, we still manufacture over one half billion sterile and non sterile swabs annually. Today we are proud to be one of the leading manufacturers in the world of sterile and non-sterile “tipped” applicators. All manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner with renewable resources as key ingredients!
